Make sure your intruder alarm continues to work correctly

You may already be aware that Openreach are making some changes to the telephone network across the country, which may impact alarm systems. They will be migrating the existing telephone network from analogue, to an IP-digital network over fibre, with a target completion date of the end of 2025.

Once this is in place, any existing alarm transmission systems designed to operate on the current analogue network, will almost certainly fail.

If you have remote a signalling intruder alarm system, it’s important that you check with your alarm maintenance company to confirm that the existing alarm transmission system will work on the new fibre network; and if not, that it will be upgraded to something which will ensure the alarm signalling won’t be compromised.

It’s especially important that this is reviewed, to make sure you don’t inadvertently breach any of your policy conditions.
