World Cup squads worth £13.1bn

According to research by Lloyd’s of London, the value of all teams in this year’s World Cup in Russia is estimated at £13.1bn – more than double the figure of £6.2bn in 2014 at Brazil.

France have the most expensive squad at £1.43bn followed by England at £1.17bn and Brazil at £1.1bn. The average insurable value of one England player is more than the entire Panama squad.

The most expensive squad in 2014 was Germany with a value of £641m – they, of course, went on to win the tournament.

Group G, which includes Belgium, England, Panama and Tunisia has the highest insurable value at £2.3bn – interestingly, Group G was also the highest value group in 2014 at £1.19bn (Germany, Portugal, Ghana and USA).

We take a look at the top 5, will this influence who you are placing your bets on this year?
